Sparkling Pomegranate Punch Anyone?

For those avoiding alcohol this Christmas why not try making a sparkling pomegranate punch?

As one of the oldest known fruits, the pomegranate has been revered as a symbol of health for centuries.  The reason being that it contains a high level of polyphenols and flavonoids which are powerful antioxidants. Pomegranates also contain vitamin C, vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid), folate and a good amount of vitamin A, vitamin E and fibre.

Pomegranates are thought to provide numerous health benefits including:

  • Reducing inflammation
  • Soothing sore throats
  • Aiding the reduction of symptoms caused by anaemia
  • Providing relief from stomach disorders
  • Reducing dental plaque
  • Maintaining good blood flow around the body (American Journal of the College of Cardiology, Sept 2005).
  • Reducing the symptoms of arthritis
  • Slow down the signs of ageing due to their high antioxidant content

Consuming Pomegranate on a regular basis is also thought to improve and help balance oestrogen and progesterone levels in women too!

Sparkling Pomegranate Punch

Ingredients (serves 2)

  • 2 large Pomegranates (use the seeds)
  • 3 Oranges or 6 sweet Clementine / Tangerines- the sweeter the better
  • 1 half pint glass of sparkling water (add more water if you wish to make it go further).
  • Ice cubes

How to make

Use a juicer to extract the juice of oranges and pomegranates, then add the sparkling water. Serve immediately over ice garnished with orange, mint, strawberries.
